In the fruit bowl of the Green March

Styria lies in the fertile and green south-east of Austria, and offers a lot of diversity in a compact area. Let your road bike take you to an entirely new landscape each day; ride through apple orchards and vineyards to the Almenland Nature Park, past flowering gardens to the enchanting Apfelland (an apple-growing region), over steep hills to the Vulkanland (volcanic region) - the names alone will fill you with eager anticipation. At the end of each stage, you will return to the flat Raab Valley and your accommodation in the idyllic market town of St Ruprecht.

A wealth of scenery, culture, geography and history await road cyclists here. Drinking, eating and savouring are the order of the day in this region. Churches, spas, the cultural gem Graz, beautiful wine villages, unique nature - with plenty of quaint charm and traditional inns. Jawoi! That’s what Styria is all about!

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 5-day location-based tour in the St. Ruprecht area

Welcome to St. Ruprecht, in the heart of the Styrian fruit bowl.

Please note: The following day tours are simply a selection of the seven possible routes. You can decide which tour you do each day.

Starting from St. Ruprecht an der Raab, this easy circular tour heads south via the town of Gleisdorf, taking you through the Raab Valley at first. You will then enter the hilly Vulkanland just before Feldbach, where the only tough climb awaits you.

A beautiful round trip from St. Ruprecht an der Raab through the apple orchards and vineyards of eastern Styria. After about 20 kilometres, the ascent to the alpine pastures of the Almenland Nature Park begins.

The ride across Europe's highest low mountain pasture is challenging, but you will be rewarded with stunning panoramic views. Finally, a long and fast descent back into the Raab Valley awaits you.

This round trip takes you from St. Ruprecht an der Raab into the volcanic Styrian Vulkanland. There are no high peaks, but the ups and downs of the hilly landscape make the tour particularly attractive, as do its many sights, such as Riegersburg Castle.

Time to say goodbye - or start your extended stay in the fruit bowl of Styria.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Ride away, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your road biking holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you get to focus on your passion for road cycling.

For beginners, improvers – and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

The location-based tour is a great choice for anyone who would like to try out the adventure of road cycling for the first time. It offers that extra touch of flexibility that beginners will appreciate. If your muscles are hurting after the previous day's climb or if the weather isn't good enough for an extended road bike tour, you can easily take a day off and relax in your hotel. A sporting challenge and a pleasant holiday go hand in hand with the PEDALO location-based series.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
