The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day location-based tour in the Weimar area

Weimar offers a worldwide unique historic tradition. Museums, memorial places, churches and an interesting history are reminding on the life of many well-known persons. The thousand-year-old city knows many big names as for example Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland, Lucas Cranch, Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Liszt. Today Weimar is a pulsating centre of art and science.

Arrive early – Weimar is awaiting you with historic and culinary inner city.

The first stage takes you along the Thuringian chain of towns to Erfurt. In the state capital of Thuringia, Erfurt Cathedral is definitely worth a visit. You should also visit the Krämerbrücke. There are numerous churches and half-timbered houses in the medieval town center. And the cozy inns tempt you to sample Thuringian specialties. After an extensive stay, you will return to Weimar through the beautiful countryside.

You leave Weimar heading north, following the course of the River Ilm. You quickly reach Tierfurt Castle through impressive parks. After a short stop, you continue along the Ilm.

Numerous castles and palaces line your route. Apolda is the perfect place to stop for lunch. The town boasts a more than 250-year-old tradition of bell casting. A short loop takes you back to your starting point by bike through the Weimarer Land region.

Today you will enjoy plenty of peace and quiet in unspoiled natural landscapes. Certainly a balm for your soul! The route takes you via the spa town of Bad Berka to the Munich manor, situated in the middle of the green vacation idyll of the Weimarer Land. The two-castle town of Kranichfeld, in the middle Ilm valley, is ideal for a lunch break and a dip in the cool waters of the Hohenfelden reservoir provides refreshment.

After a break for a swim, the route leads through forests, meadows and fields back to Weimar.

Today you cycle along the Thuringian chain of towns to Jena. The university town on the Saale is definitely worth a stroll. You can reach for the stars in the Zeiss Planetarium. You will find an extensive art collection in the Jena City Museum.

After an extensive stay, you return to your starting point through beautiful landscapes. The fresh air and unspoiled nature will make up for the occasional climb. And the Weimarer Pils will taste all the better in the evening. Of course, a Thuringian bratwurst goes perfectly with it.

Your cycle tour ends after breakfast. You start your journey home with lots of great impressions in your luggage. We are happy to book an additional stay on request.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
