In Lübeck, you have the opportunity to explore the waterfront Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with around 1,800 listed buildings, historic alleyways and winding alleyways. From the cultural capital of the north, you can also experience the coast of the Bay of Lübeck, the Old Salt Road and Lake Plön.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day location-based tour in the Lübeck area

Start your journey with a leisurely walk around the Old Town Island, for example.

The first star tour takes you to Travemünde on the Baltic Sea, which belongs to Lübeck. Enjoy a relaxed journey by boat (under your own steam) or by bike. From Travemünde you cycle via Niendorf to Timmendorfer Strand. If the weather is bad, it is worth visiting the aquarium or the thermal baths. Cycle past Lake Hemmelsdorf and across the River Trave back to Lübeck.

In the Middle Ages, valuable salt was transported to Lübeck on the Salt Road. As a spice and preservative, salt was one of the most important trade goods for centuries and Lübeck owed its wealth to it. Discover the beauty of the region on the historic trade route, which has now been developed into a long-distance cycle route. Cycle along the shores of Lake Ratzeburg and pay a visit to the Eulenspiegel Fountain in Mölln before heading back north along the Elbe-Lübeck Canal.

Cycling in a north-westerly direction, you will reach Bad Schwartau in just a few kilometres, which is not only known for the jam produced there, but is also a state-approved iodine brine and moor spa. After a break in Pronstorf/Strenglin near the Wardersee lake, you continue northwards until you finally reach the Großer Plöner See lake, along the banks of which you cycle at a relaxed pace to Plön or Malente. From both towns, a train journey (under your own steam) takes you back again.

Discover the secrets of the time-honoured Hanseatic city on a city tour (incl.), stroll through the picturesque little alleyways, climb the tower of St. Peter's Church for a great view over the whole city or paddle a canoe across the Wakenitz. There is so much to experience in Lübeck that there is definitely something for everyone.

After breakfast, you can travel home on your own or extend your holiday.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
