For your 8-day round trip in the Flensburg area
Flensburg is located to the north of Germany and is therefore an ideal starting point for a cycling tour on the Baltic Sea Cycle Route. After your arrival, stroll through the beautiful alleys and corners of the old town with its typical Flensburg merchants‘ courtyards.
Near Flensburg you cross the German-Danish border. In Gråsten it is worth taking a first break to see the summer residence of the Danish royal family. Via Sønderborg you continue to Nydam Mose, a bog that was used as a sacrificial site in the Iron Age. In Åbenrå, the old town with its typical burghers‘ and craftsmen‘s houses is worth a visit.
Today you first cycle to Haderslev. The old town, situated on a peninsula, is dominated by the Vor Frue Domkirke - one of the most beautiful Got- hic churches in Denmark. In Kolding, your destination for the day, you will notice the Koldinghus - a castle-like palace that looks back on a long history and houses a museum today. From the tower of the castle, you have a wide view of the city and the Kolding Fjord.
Today you will cross the Lillebæltsbroen – a bridge that connects Jut- land with Funen. Arriving in the Funen harbour town of Middelfart, you can admire one of Denmark‘s most beautiful half-timbered houses near the the harbour, the Henner Friisers Hus. It also houses a museum that shows the history of whaling in the Little Belt. From Middelfart you fol- low the west coast of Funen to your overnight stop in Assens or Ebberup. If you stay overnight in Brobyværk, the cycle route will take you into the interior of Funen.
You start the day with a round trip over the Helnæs peninsula. A refreshing swim is worthwhile at Helnæs beach. In Fåborg you can enjoy the view of the surroundings and the sea from the town‘s landmark, the bell tower. You can stay overnight in the harbour town of Svendborg, whose townscape is characterised by countless half-timbered houses and the Sejlskibsbroen at the harbour, or in the small shipping town of Troense on the island of Tåsinge.
You will take the ferry to the picturesque island of Ærø. The oldest town on the island, Ærøskøbing, is your first destination. The fairytale town presents itself with small half-timbered houses, climbing hollyhocks and dreamy pubs. Get to know the harbour town of Marstal on the south-eastern tip and follow cycle route 8 across the island. From Søby, the ferry takes you to Fynshavn. From here you have two alternative routes to your destination for today, Sønderborg.
In Sønderborg, visit the castle of the same name, one of the oldest royal castles in Jutland, right on the water. Afterwards you start the last stage of your bike tour. In Dybbøl you have a wonderful view over the Flensburg Fjord. A memorial commemorates the German-Danish war in 1864. It is worth taking a break in Gråsten, where the summer residence of the Danish royal family is located. Soon you cross the border and are back in Flensburg.
After breakfast you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.

Sporty tour + e-bike = more momentum and energy
You think adventure, calf workouts and e-bikes are mutually exclusive? Far from it, we say! Cycling with electric power can open up whole new worlds of cycling.
Concept
For cycling holiday connoisseurs who already appreciate the advantages of e-bikes and who would like to cover longer distances at a brisk pace, the combination of an e-bike & a sporty cycling tour offers a new adventure in the form of longer distances and more challenging terrain.
Even those who are not (yet) fit enough but are still craving a sporty PEDALO bike tour should go for it - and treat themselves to an e-bike for support. With a gentle push, it gets you right into the thick of it all!
Or are you travelling as a couple and your partner is always ahead of you? With an e-bike, you will be able to keep up easily.
Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.
The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.
Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.
The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.
Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.
Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.
Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!
Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
