The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day round trip in the Leuk area

You’ll enjoy the first few quiet kilometres through the Pfyn-Finges nature park, before catching a glimpse of the roofs of the town of Sierre. This is followed by a ride along the vineyards to the village of Agarn, where the first few metres of ascent await you into the Turtmann Valley (Tourtemagne). The descent into the Rhone Valley is a reward for all your efforts so far, before the last climb of the day through the vineyards and the Dala Gorge. Your day ends in Susten (La Souste).

You’ll soon leave the Rhone-biking path, to climb up the winding road to the Moosalp Pass. Enjoy the view and take deep breaths at the top because the descent to Visperterminen is breathtaking. To end off this leg, you’ll pass right near the Brigerbad hot springs.

You can give your tired legs a little rest today. A gentle ascent takes you to the Gibidum dam wall, an imposing edifice at the foot of the Aletsch glacier directly above the Massa gorge.

Having recovered your energy, you’ll follow the course of the Rhone through the villages typical of the Goms valley await you. When you arrive in Oberwald, take the time to recover before starting on the Grimsel Pass - for hardened cyclists only!

The most beautiful Alpine passes can be reached quickly from Oberwald. The first ascent to the Nufenen pass is followed by a speedy descent down to Airolo. The ensuing ride up to the Gotthard Pass represents a real challenge over cobblestones and along countless serpentine curves. You can recover on the descent to Hospental before the toughest challenge of the day: the Furka Pass.

There are two options for ending off your stay. You can follow the Rhone route from its source, first through the villages of the Goms valley and then to Leuk. Or, if you want to get a bit higher, a diversion to the authentic Binn Valley is highly recommended. But beware: the route passes through a tunnel and certain sections of the road aren’t tarred. But the chance to discover the landscape around Binn is well worth the effort!

Kilometre killer

Sporting challenge is your top priority. Long, steep climbs that push you to your limits are what you want - and loooong distances are right up your street. You are a well-trained, experienced road biker with good fitness and endurance.

Topography

The topography is mountainous. The ride over the Alpine passes on the fifth day is particularly challenging.

Road conditions

You cycle on well-built, asphalted roads with some traffic around the urban centres.

questions

What info material will I receive for my bike tour?

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

How does the luggage transport work?

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Should I take out travel insurance?

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
