This tour will give you a picture of just how diverse Slovenia is - or many different pictures, because every day brings new impressions and views.

The varied stages can be tackled by road bike or gravel bike. Whatever you choose, the common denominator is the blue ribbon of the Savinja River, which you will encounter again and again. Don't be fooled though - the route along the riverbank is rarely flat! On your daily excursions, you will explore the upper and lower Savinja Valley and sometimes venture beyond its borders.

Hilly sections give way to mountainous ones, with the peaks of the Kamnik Alps greeting you from afar, then coming closer as you pedal up to the Golte Alpine garden or even tackle the Paulitsch saddle on the border with Austria.

Whether you spend every day pushing your limits until sunset or take a trip to Ljubljana after a shorter stage is entirely up to you, because the Slovenian capital is also just a stone's throw away from your accommodation in picturesque Ceplje.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 7-day location-based tour in the Ceplje area

Welcome to Ceplje, in the heart of Slovenia's Savinja Valley.

Note: The day tours presented below are only a sample selection of the many different routes available for road cyclists. Alternatively, there are also routes designed specifically for gravel bikers.

The first stage to get you rolling: you start the day on mostly flat paths, with a first gentle climb leading up to Lake Zovnek. Then you pass the towns of Braslovce and Polzela and the Senek manor house on your way into the Savinja Valley.

Here, the route through the forest to the Arja vas - Velenice road becomes a little more undulating. You pass Velika Piresica on the way to the top of the hill, then descend again to Lopata and Celje. After crossing the Savinja River, you roll back to the hotel via Grize and Prebold.

Today things get serious: after a relatively easy warm-up stretch through the Lipa Pass and the Zadreska dolina with wooded sections, you head down to Radežunda, the starting point for a 13-kilometre-long climb with 975 metres of elevation gain.

Pace yourself at the start of the steepest climb so you can really enjoy the unique view of the Savinja Valley! After a pleasant middle section, you will reach the final climb to the Alpine garden in Golte. The descent follows the same route as the ascent. On the way back to the hotel, you will pass Mozirje, Letus and Braslovce.

Today, you get to explore all the most beautiful nooks and crannies of the Savinja Valley. Picturesque side roads take you to Lake Zovnek, Braslovce and across the Savinja to Polzela. The route is slightly uphill throughout.

You cycle to Skorno on the Paka River, to Florjan, Bele Vode and Lepa Nivja, where you begin the first longer descent to Mozirje and the Mozirje grove. Before you head back towards Golte, turn off towards Recica and Trnovec. The last and longest climb of the day takes you over the Lipa Pass and back to the hotel.

Today's round trip takes you back through the lower Savinja Valley, first to Prebold, where the ascent to the 724 m high Podmeja Pass begins, leading you to the Zasavje region and the mining town of Trbovlje.

The second highlight of the day is the climb to Cemseniska at an altitude of 630 m. Then it's downhill to Trojane, where you should definitely try the famous doughnuts, and on via Vransko and Grof back to the hotel.

If you return early, you can take a short trip to Ljubljana in the afternoon to visit the old town.

Today’s stage is the crowning glory: via Vransko, you make your way through the Tuhinjska Valley to the town of Kamnik in the alpine region of Gorenjska, continue to Senturska Gora and, after a long climb, to Zgornje Jezersko and the Seebersattel.

The descent takes you across the border to Austria and then up another climb to the Paulitsch Pass, the most famous pass in the Kamnik Alps. The way down into the Logar Valley is beautiful, as is the rest of the route along the Savinja via Smartno ob Dreti and Lipa back to the hotel.

After breakfast, your Slovenian road bike or gravel bike tour comes to an end. If you would like to stay a little longer, we will be happy to book additional nights for you.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Ride away, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your road biking holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you get to focus on your passion for road cycling.

For beginners, improvers – and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

The location-based tour is a great choice for anyone who would like to try out the adventure of road cycling for the first time. It offers that extra touch of flexibility that beginners will appreciate. If your muscles are hurting after the previous day's climb or if the weather isn't good enough for an extended road bike tour, you can easily take a day off and relax in your hotel. A sporting challenge and a pleasant holiday go hand in hand with the PEDALO location-based series.

You will navigate using GPS data. You therefore need your own GPS device and/or the free, user-friendly PEDALO app.

You will also receive daily map sheets from us with elevation profiles and basic information about the route, which you can use to get a general overview.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
