Pedaling, sweating, suffering a little but above all enjoying. This centre-based trip in the north of Mont Ventoux offers us the best of Provence on the road bike. On each of the 3 days in the saddle we will explore a different sector around the Géant de Provence. Gentle hills, impressive limestone rocks, beautiful gorges and many unknown, smaller mountain passes await us. And of course, the legendary Mont Ventoux is also on the program. The vineyards, olive groves, sunflower and lavender fields and the typical bushland with thyme and rosemary are not only the perfect scenery for our tours. It can also be found on our menu. So typically Provence.

The itinerary

For your 5-day location-based tour in the Buis-les-Baronnies area

Day
01
Arrival in Buis-les-Baronnies (organised by the traveller)

We are here in the heart of the regional nature park of the Baronnies provençales. This huge, sparsely populated area (30,000 inhabitants live here on 1600 km2) is dotted with beautiful, isolated country roads, small winding passes and magnificent gorges. The landscape is a real mosaic of vineyards, apricot plantations, olive groves and lavender fields. And with a bit of luck we might spot the resident griffon vultures, which often circle the blue sky.

A beautiful road cycling day awaits us. On level 2 and 3 we will today climb up to the Géant de Provence from Malaucène, a demanding climb! On level 3, 2700 metres of elevation gain have to be overcome. From the descent we enter the wild and beautiful gorges of the Toulourenc. The route on level 1 takes us also into the valley of the Ouvèze.

A clear scenic contrast to the previous days awaits us on our last cycling day: The northern part of the Baronnies is more Alpine, the reliefs more pronounced. Between the gorges of the Trente Pas and the village of La Motte Chalancon, we bypass the mountains Angèle, Raton and the Tête du Mouret. On the level 1 route, we discover the olive growing area of Nyons!

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Ride away, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your road biking holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you get to focus on your passion for road cycling.

For beginners, improvers – and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

The location-based tour is a great choice for anyone who would like to try out the adventure of road cycling for the first time. It offers that extra touch of flexibility that beginners will appreciate. If your muscles are hurting after the previous day's climb or if the weather isn't good enough for an extended road bike tour, you can easily take a day off and relax in your hotel. A sporting challenge and a pleasant holiday go hand in hand with the PEDALO location-based series.

You will navigate using GPS data. You therefore need your own GPS device and/or the free, user-friendly PEDALO app.

You will also receive daily map sheets from us with elevation profiles and basic information about the route, which you can use to get a general overview.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
