The Dolomites are your constant companions during this round tour at the foot of the legendary “pale mountains”, on the list of UNESCO world heritage due to their “unique monumental beauty”. A marvellous landscape with bizarre rock formations, crystal clear lakes and flourishing fruit- and wine yards are waiting to be enjoyed. Start point of this tour is the valley Hochpustertal, demarcating the Dolomites towards the North. Then you continue along the Eisacktal and Etschtal Valleys, forming the west boarder, passing South Tyrol’s capital Bolzano and reaching Trento. On the southern part of the Dolomites you will cycle through the Valsugana Valley to Feltre. The former Dolomites railway track will lead you into the direction of the Olympic town Cortina d’Ampezzo. Finally you will greet the famous Three Peaks from the Höhlensteintal and you turn back to the Hochpustertal.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day round trip in the Toblach area

Individual arrival at the hotel in Alta Pusteria. Free, unguarded public car park near the hotel.

You start from the Pustertal, cycling immersed in the natural spectacle of the Dolomites. With the Three Peaks Nature Park on your left and the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park on your right, the route follows the former Dolomites railway, offering extraordinary views of the famous Three Peaks. Crossing the border between South Tyrol and Veneto, you arrive at Cortina d’Ampezzo, historic Olympic town surrounded by legendary peaks. From there, you continue towards Pieve di Cadore, passing through forests, tunnels, and alpine landscapes that tell the story and beauty of these mountains.

Leaving Pieve di Cadore, you immediately immerse yourself in the alpine landscapes characteristic of this area of the Dolomites, following the cycle path southwards. You will cross Longarone, a town completely rebuilt after a terrible landslide from Monte Toc in 1963 flooded the Vajont basin, causing two enormous waves that devastated the area. You will reach Belluno, a small, quiet, and peaceful town, before continuing through forests and picturesque villages. Finally, you arrive in Feltre, a town with historic charm, where the Dolomites continue to form the backdrop to this biking adventure.

Leaving Feltre, a small gem on the historic "Via Claudia Augusta," the road crosses scenic landscapes, following an ancient Roman route that connected the Po Valley to Bavaria across the Alps. You will reach Lake Caldonazzo, the largest natural lake in Trentino, famous for its clear and calm waters. It is possible to shorten the stage by taking a train for part of the route (ticket not included). Finally, you arrive in Trento, welcomed by its rich historic center and the Buonconsiglio Castle.

Starting from Trento, leave behind the lively historic center and the majestic Buonconsiglio Castle, following the cycle path along the Adige River. The landscape opens up between lush vineyards and orchards that accompany your ride. You will reach the Salorno Gorge, the linguistic border between the Italian-speaking Trentino and the German-speaking South Tyrol. Continuing along the Adige River, you finally arrive in Bolzano, the cultural and commercial heart of South Tyrol, where the stage ends.

Start in Bolzano, a charming city blending Tyrolean and Mediterranean cultures. Explore the arcades, relax at Waltherplatz cafés, or visit the Ötzi museum. Follow the cycle path along the Isarco River, passing Trostburg Castle and Säben Monastery. Continue through vineyards and alpine scenery to Bressanone. Before ending, stroll the historic center and admire the cathedral.

Leave Bressanone and cycle north along the Isarco River. long the way, you will encounter the majestic fortress of Franzensfeste, the evocative Neustift Abbey complex, and shortly after, the ruins of the Chiusa di Rio Pusteria. Continuing along the cycle path, you enter the green Puster Valley, accompanied by the peaceful flow of the Rienza River. A short stop in Brunico is highly recommended: its lively pedestrian center welcomes you with cafés, shops, and alpine atmosphere.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
