For your 8-day tround trip in the Faro area
Welcome to the Algarve! We will greet you either on your day of arrival or, if it falls outside our business hours or on a public holiday, on the first day of your cycling tour. At the welcome meeting, we will perfectly adjust your bike and provide you with all the essential information for your journey. This is the moment your Algarve adventure truly begins - with comfort, confidence, and a smile.
Today’s tour begins in Faro and leads you eastward along smooth, scenic roads. After setting off, you’ll pass by the peaceful village of Moncarapacho, offering a glimpse of the Algarve’s traditional countryside. As you continue, the route runs past the historic town of Tavira, with distant views of its iconic Roman bridge and charming architecture. The ride then continues through quiet rural landscapes, taking you towards the final destination of Monte Gordo, a popular coastal town known for its expansive beaches and relaxed vibe.
This tour begins in Monte Gordo and leads you inland through the scenic countryside of the eastern Algarve. After departing the coast, the route takes you above Castro Marim, offering views over the surrounding hills. You’ll continue along quiet roads, riding past Tavira, before heading into the rural area of Santa Catarina. From here, the route winds through the foothills towards São Brás de Alportel, a town rich in cork heritage. After São Brás, you’ll pass through Estoi, with its charming historic center, before completing the final stretch to Olhão, where the day's journey ends.
Today's journey takes you across the fertile midlands known as the "Barrocal", an area rich with citrus plantations, farmland, and vineyards. After traveling a few flat kilometers, there's a short climb to Corotelo followed by a flat stretch leading to the market town of Loulé.
Next, you'll cross the "Ribeiro de Algibre" river valley before climbing to Salir on the ridge. Once at the top, the route takes a newly paved mountain road, smooth and free of traffic, gently rolling past numerous orange groves and vineyards all the way to Alte. This charming town, known for its white-painted houses and the small river running through it, is considered one of the most picturesque in the Algarve.
The journey continues to Messines, followed by a long descent to Silves, the historic capital of the Algarve. The day concludes with a challenging climb up to the hotel, nestled in a small valley complete with a thermal spring and bath.
This morning, you'll tackle the highest mountain in the Algarve before heading to the west coast along the deep blue Atlantic. The journey begins by heading to the small town of Monchique, situated at the heart of the hill chain bearing the same name, with its highest point, Foia, reaching 902 meters above sea level. The 11 kilometer climb to the summit starts here on a scenic panoramic road. Once at the top, you're rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of the coastal area to the south and west, as well as the vast sea of hills of the Serra.
An exhilarating descent takes you through densely wooded areas to Marmelete, then westward along the edge of the Serra, continuously downhill toward the coast to São Teotónio. The route follows the banks of the Ribeira de Seixe to the charming coastal town of Odeceixe, home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the western Algarve. From there, the route runs almost straight, flanked by the Atlantic Ocean, to Aljezur, where today's stage concludes.
Today's stage takes you through the "Costa Vicentina" nature reserve, around the most south-westerly point in Europe, and along the south coast to Lagos. The tour starts with a flat stretch as you cycle with the sea breeze from the nearby Atlantic Ocean in your face, traversing the unique nature reserve. Once you reach the bottom, you arrive at the "Cabo de São Vicente", where a lighthouse stands on 60-meter-high cliffs that drop sharply over the sea. The stunning view of the deep blue Atlantic offers a perfect opportunity for a break!
The journey then continues along a picturesque coastal road to Sagres, the legendary site of Henry the Navigator's maritime school, where Portugal's finest sailors, who would go on to discover the world's oceans, were trained. Afterward, you follow the coastal route heading to your hotel in Lagos.
The final stage takes you back through the heart of the country to Faro. To bypass the heavy traffic near the coast, the route utilizes secondary roads through the center of the fertile Barrocal plain. Featuring a steady, yet very gentle series of ascents and descents, the route winds through numerous villages adorned with white painted or colorfully painted houses and traverses rural areas characterized by typical Algarve tree cultures such as carob, almond, and olive trees, leading you back to Faro, the capital of the Algarve. Conclude your journey with a satisfying dinner and take the time to reflect on the tour's highlights and experiences.
