The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day location-based tour in the Zierikzee area

Arrive in Zierikzee and check into your accommodation. Zierikzee is a harbour town with a rich history. There are more than 500 monuments to marvel at. The small boutiques are great for shopping, and you will find peace and relaxation at the beautiful harbour.

Your first cycle tour takes you over the Zeeland Bridge. This impressive structure is over five kilometres long and connects the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland. You soon reach the small fishing village of Colijnsplaat, known for the wetlands between the dykes. There are also two windmills in the village. On your way back, you will pass the impressive Delta Works. The largest storm surge barrier in the world is made up of a total of 13 structures; an imposing construction of dams, dykes and locks. You can visit sea lions and seals in Deltapark Neeltje Jans. And in the coastal town of Burgh-Haamstede you will find one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the Netherlands.

Today you will cycle around the Grevelingenmeer, the largest saltwater lake in Western Europe. Breathtaking natural landscapes with special flora and fauna await you; you might spot wild horses and many types of seals. Near Ouddorp, you will find a number of sandy beaches that will tempt you to take a quick dip. Finally, the fishing village of Bruinisse is known for its many restaurants which serve delicious mussels in season.

Firstly, you will cycle along the coast in the Oosterschelde nature reserve, the largest national park in the Netherlands and an important bird sanctuary. It is also home to harbour porpoises and is a breeding ground for octopus. Next you reach Goes. With almost 300 shops, this diverse city is a delight for shopping fans. A trip on the local steam railway is also exciting - the authentic museum trains are a great way to discover the Zeeland region. You will return to your accommodation in Zierikzee through beautiful natural landscapes.

Once again, you will start your cycle tour by crossing the Zeeland Bridge. On the structure, you will have the feeling of standing in the middle of the sea. You will then cross the island of North Beveland and cycle to Veere. The historic town is full of shops and sights. Some of the houses and streets date back to the 15th century. In summer, a historic market is held in the town centre every Tuesday. A boat trip on the Veerse Meer will give you yet more new impressions of Zeeland. If you still have energy, you can take a short detour to the Schellach cheese farm, where various regional specialities await you. You then cycle back to Zierikzee.

Your cycling holiday ends after breakfast, but there is still plenty to discover in Zeeland. We would be happy to book an extension to your holiday.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
