You will explore not only Vienna, but also its enchanting surroundings on this journey. The historic centre is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is well-known everywhere. But the area surrounding the old imperial city also has a lot to offer.

Nature experiences of a very special kind await you on your cycling stages. In addition to breathtaking landscapes, numerous castles and palaces line your route. These include Schönbrunn Palace and Laxenburg Palace, the former summer residences of the Habsburgs. And in the outlying districts you will find local grape varieties that are just waiting to be tasted.

A journey that combines culture and nature in an ideal way. Without having to pack your suitcase every day, without stress and hectic. The city has long advertised itself with the slogan: 'Vienna is different' - see for yourself!

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day location-based tour in the Vienna area

Individual journey to Vienna and check into your accommodation. A first stroll through the historic city centre will get you in the mood for your upcoming cycling holiday.

Right at the start, you will find a tour that includes almost everything that Vienna has to offer. Via the Reichsbrücke and the Prater-Hauptallee, you can quickly reach the city centre - and always on dedicated cycle paths without traffic. Take plenty of time to visit the city centre and its famous buildings: St Stephen's Cathedral, the Albertina, the State Opera House and the Hofburg Palace, to name just a few.

In the direction of Neustift am Walde, the tour continues along the Höhenstraße to the Cobenzl viewpoint. A fantastic view over the rooftops of Vienna will reward you for the climb. Sporty cyclists can take a detour to the Kahlenberg. Via Grinzing, where you can stop off at a wine tavern, the cycle tour along the New Danube finally takes you back to your hotel. Vienna is different: the city has long advertised itself with this slogan. See for yourself on this day tour!

On today's stage, you will explore numerous castles and stately homes. Your route first takes you to the city park. The picturesque meadows, large expanses of water and ornamental shrubs invite you to linger. Art lovers will also find the most monuments and sculptures of all Vienna's parks here.

Schönbrunn Palace is then quickly reached. In its present form, the building was erected in the 18th century as a summer residence for Archduchess Maria Theresa. The adjoining zoo is also worth a visit. Your route continues to Laxenburg Palace, which was another summer residence of the Habsburgs alongside Schönbrunn Palace. Your cycle tour takes you back to Vienna via Maria Lanzendorf and Rothneusiedl. On your way back, you should make a stop at Belvedere Palace. The building complex is home to numerous art collections.

Today is dedicated entirely to the beautiful blue Danube. The Danube Canal takes you through Vienna and you cycle upstream via Brigittenau and Nussdorf. Klosterneuburg is an excellent place to stop for lunch and the local Augustinian monastery is well worth a visit. The local wineries invite you to stop and sample the local grape varieties. You change banks of the Danube at Greifenstein. Via Korneuburg you quickly reach the Danube Island, which leads you back to your hotel without any traffic.

Unspoilt natural landscapes await you on your last stage. The tour takes you to the Donau-Auen National Park, one of the largest and largely intact floodplain landscapes along the Danube. The protected area is home to more than 700 species of higher plants. There are also numerous protected bird and fish species. This unique flora and fauna will inspire you! The cycle tour first takes you downstream to Schönau an der Donau. Inland, you return to your hotel via Lobau and Groß-Enzersdorf. Pure nature at the gates of a big city: that's Vienna too!

Your cycle tour ends after breakfast. We are happy to book an extension to explore the city in all its details and facets.

As a general rule, the earlier you book, the better.

However, this PEDALO cycle tour is one of those that you may still be able to book at very short notice, i.e. up to three working days before your arrival date. Feel free to enquire about the options - preferably by telephone. If it is already apparent from your enquiry that it will not be possible to complete the booking process quickly enough, we will of course let you know immediately.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.

Long stages, tough climbs and a fast pace are just as much a part of a gravel bike trip as a classic road bike trip - but gravel biking has the added advantage of not being tied to a perfectly good road network. A gravel bike allows you to ride comfortably and quickly on surfaces that would leave you shaken to the core on a conventional road bike.

Gravel bikes are multi-purpose bikes. Thanks to their specially adapted geometry and slightly wider, well-profiled tyres, they are just as fun to ride on dirt roads as they are on tarmac. This means there are almost no obstacles to a trip on a wide variety of terrain. You can get where you’re going in no time at all and experience nature at close quarters.
