Italy’s most breathtaking landscape

This seven-day cycle tour is intended for tourists who want to experience the quiet, idyllic face of Italy. Every stage of the tour leads through lush olive groves, or past beautiful expanses of water such as the Tiber River or Lake Trasimeno. Of course, you will also pass through typically Italian medieval towns, with the well-known names of Assisi, Todi or Bettona. You will return ‘home’ every night – to the four-star Residenza d’Epoca alla Posta dei Donini.

01
Arrival in Perugia (organised by the traveller)

The river Tiber is not many kilometers away. You cycle along the river valley past the shimmering sunflowers and wheat fields. From afar you will then see the dome of Santa Maria degli Angeli, which is a pilgrimage church. It is well worth taking a break here especially if you haven't already. There is a short ascent up to Assisi after the church. The town of Saint Francis lies impressively on the edge of Mount Subasio. Finally, you cycle back down into the Tiber valley back to your luxury accommodation.

The typical, Umbrian landscape accompanies you today on your bike tour to Todi. Between the olive groves you keep on getting magnificent views across the Tiber valley. In the spring, the gorse shines vibrant yellow and in summer it is the turn of the sunflowers. In the distance you can see where you are headed for, Todi. Admire the medieval Piazza del Popolo whilst drinking a creamy cappuccino. In the evening you take the train back to San Martino in Campo.

There are three cultural highlights making for an entertaining cycle today. Bettona perches majestically like a swallow's nest on a small hill and has a medieval flair with its narrow roads. You also immerse yourself into Bevagna and its ancient history. To top the day off you will visit Montefalco, which is a medieval town surrounded by a wall and that has breathtaking views at the ready for you across the valley. All of these amazing towns that you cycle through today meant that we almost forgot to mention that today's cycle route itself is magnificent... In the evening you return to the hotel by bus transfer.

Some might say that Umbria comes across in a cliche way in today's stage. You cycle through golden wheat fields that are only interrupted by lush green vineyards and silver shimmering olive groves. The route gently undulates as you head from village to village. at the well-known Chiorri vineyard there is a wine tasting session waiting for you. But not just fine wine, you will also enjoy a traditional lunch on the terrace with a beautiful view all around you. Afterwards you have only got to cycle a few kilometers to return to your hotel.

Today you pedal through olive groves and small Umbrian villages until you get to Lake Trasimeno. It will glisten in front of your eyes and will entice you in for a swim. Enjoy the extensive views of the surrounding area once again with the shining sunflower fields and the lush green vineyards. Take a break in one of the traditional Trattorias that you pass on your way and enjoy the Italian hospitality whilst drinking a good glass of Umbrian Grechetto.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
