The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day round trip in the Salzburg area

Arrival to Salzburg - the culturally rich city of Mozart. Take enough time for a stroll through the old part of the city and visit the Mozart´s Birthplace.

Your bikes are available in the booked hotel.

Follow the course of the river Salzach. Soon you will reach Hallein. There you can visit the salt mines, which are disused since 1989. The romantic "Bluntautal" is worth a visit, too. In Golling you should allow plenty of time to visit the remarkable waterfall.

Today you will arrive in Werfen. There you will see the castle "Hohenwerfen". The well-known ice caves are worth a visit, too.

In Bischofshofen you can admire the ski jump, where every year the final of the Four Hills Tournament is held.

In St. Johann you will see the well-known "Liechtensteinklamm", a huge spectacle with a 50 m high waterfall at the end of the gorge.

You will soon reach Bruck and the entrance to the "Großglocknerstraße" (High Alpine Road). From the beginning of July there are buses to the 3,797 m high Großglockner, Austria´s highest mountain, which stops at "Franz-Josephs-Höhe".

The sportive bikers have the opportunity to cycle around Lake Zeller (Zeller See) and the cozy cyclists can use it as a refreshing dip. You just have to ride a short distance and then you will have reached Kaprun, the today´s destination. There you have excellent bus connections to the high mountain reservoirs.

After breakfast take the "Pinzgaubahn" to Krimml and visit the largest waterfalls in Europe. On a well-designed trail you can admire this natural spectacle. While cycling through the "Nationalpark Hohe Tauern" and the so-called "Oberpinzgau", you will see the snow-capped 3,000 m high mountains all the time.

Very quickly you will be back at Lake Zeller where you can take again a relaxing bath. After cycling through "Maria Alm" with its famous pilgrimage church you will reach Saalfelden, where you can enjoy your lunch break.

Other highlights on your way to Lofer are the "Seisenbergklamm" and "Lamprechtshöhle" near Weißbach.

On your last day you will cycle through the quiet "Saalachtal" back to Salzburg.

The Bavarian Bad Reichenhall in the small German Angle will enchant you with a Bavarian flair. After cycling a short distance, you will have reached Salzburg, the starting point of your tour, again.

In the evening you can enjoy a culinary dinner and review the impressions and experiences you had on your bike trip.

In Salzburg there´s a lot to discover. We would be appreciated to extend your stay.

Level

Occasional cyclists

You prefer flat terrain, but you won’t be put off by the occasional hill. There has to be the right mix of breaks, nature and culture. You enjoy exercise and bring some stamina and cycling experience to the table.

Topography

Don't be afraid! Despite the surrounding mountains, the Tauern Cycle Path leads through flat to slightly hilly terrain. The two (only) longer climbs can be bridged by train.

Road conditions

The route mostly runs away from traffic on quiet, mostly asphalted cycle paths and country roads.

Route-finding & navigation

You will navigate by yourself using maps and/or GPS data. The route is also very well signposted.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
