Green Star of the South

The green heart of southern Austria not only boasts beautiful scenery within its own borders, it is also so conveniently located that three equally beautiful neighbouring countries (and one neighbouring federal state) are within easy cycling distance.

Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia and the Austrian regions of Burgenland and Styria can all be explored during this unique cycling week. You will come across historic towns and hidden villages that have managed to retain the charm of bygone days, as well as exploring diverse landscapes such as the wine region of Jeruzalem in Slovenia.

For your 8-day location-based tour in the Bad Radkersburg area

Day
01
Arrival in Bad Radkersburg (organised by the traveller)

Maribor (Marburg) is a beautiful old town on the River Drava with a historic town centre and the oldest grape vine in the world. The return journey to Bad Radkersburg takes you through beautiful countryside with small villages.

Transfer to Alsoszölnök. You travel in an arc across western Hungary, Burgenland and Styria. You will enjoy marvellous views in the wine village of St. Anna am Aigen before you return to Bad Radkersburg by following the Thermen cycle path along the Slovenian border.

Strigova is a charming village with two striking churches. It is surrounded by hills, some of which are used for wine-growing. You cross the border into Slovenia in a secluded valley before returning to your host via the new Mur cycle path.

Fruit orchards characterise the first part of today's route. Feldbach, with its impressive town square, is the gateway to the Styrian volcanic region Vulkanland.

Enjoy a day at the spa, a guided tour of Bad Radkersburg or a leisurely ride in the surrounding area.

Leibnitz (gateway to the South Styrian Wine Route), the Grottenhof Nature Park Centre, Seggau Castle and the pilgrimage site Frauenberg are the highlights of today’s stage. The tour continues back to Bad Radkersburg, taking you through villages and past the castles of this gently undulating wine region.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
