From the crystal-clear lakes of Triglav National Park to the vibrant port city of Trieste, this cycling journey takes you through two countries rich in scenic, cultural, and culinary delights. In Bled, with its island in the turquoise lake, you begin with arguably Slovenia’s most iconic postcard view, before riding along clear rivers and through gentle valleys to reach Lake Bohinj. As you cycle through the Soča Valley, emerald-green waters, dramatic gorges, and stunning mountain landscapes accompany you.

Crossing into Italy, the picturesque Friuli region welcomes you with the medieval town of Cividale and the rolling hills of Collio, where wine and gastronomy beckon. Passing through the lively cultural hub of Gorizia and the Slovenian Karst Plateau, you’ll finally descend to the Adriatic coast—arriving in Trieste, where Italian charm and the refreshing sea breeze provide the perfect finale to your journey.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day tour from Bled to Trieste

Bled is the jewel on the edge of Triglav National Park. Explore the charming town on the shores of the glacial lake, with its castle perched high above and the famous island in the middle of the lake—arguably Slovenia’s most iconic postcard view.

Lake Bled, also known as the jewel of the Julian Alps, marks the sparkling start of your cycling journey. The bike path along the clear Sava Bohinjka River winds through a green valley and idyllic mountain villages to Bohinjska Bistrica and Lake Bohinj, set amid a picture-perfect alpine landscape. Alternatively, take the Pokljuka Plateau route in the heart of Triglav National Park, enjoying a breathtaking panoramic road down to the lake.

From the picturesque Lake Bohinj, the route leads through a quiet valley back to Bohinjska Bistrica. Then, take the train through Slovenia’s longest tunnel into the neighboring valley, followed by a long descent to the emerald-green Soča River. Cycle upstream along the river to reach Tolmin. For a more adventurous option, take the mountain road to the Soriška Planina plateau, extending the exhilarating descent into the Soča Valley into a spectacular panoramic experience.

Riding alongside the vivid green Soča River, you’ll cycle through a valley framed by towering mountains. Near Kobarid, cross the impressive Soča Gorge via a narrow bridge—perfect for a photo stop—before continuing toward the Italian border. Following the Natisone River, you’ll arrive in the beautiful old town of Cividale del Friuli. Alternatively, take the mountain pass road for a more challenging ride, rewarded with breathtaking alpine scenery and spectacular views.

Today’s ride is all about indulgence. Cycle through the stunning hilly landscape of the Collio along the Slovenian-Italian border, passing endless vineyards and countless wineries offering tastings. The day concludes perfectly with an evening of delicious Italian cuisine.

From Cividale del Friuli, follow the vineyards into a quiet valley toward the Slovenian border. A winding mountain road takes you over a ridge into the scenic Soča Valley, arriving in Kanal ob Soči. The river shimmers in captivating shades of blue and green as it guides you to the impressive Solkan Bridge. Finally, reach Gorizia, a lively cultural hub blending Italian charm with Central European elegance.

After a few pedal strokes, cross back into Slovenia and cycle through beautiful vineyard landscapes before climbing a karst plateau. From there, enjoy breathtaking views over the deep-blue Adriatic and the bay of Trieste. Passing through idyllic villages, you return to Italy, where the vibrant port city of Trieste awaits with Mediterranean flair and a unique sense of Italian living.

After breakfast, your cycling holiday comes to an end. There is much to discover in Trieste. We are happy to book an extension for you.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
