The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day tour from Basel to Strasbourg

Arrival in Saint-Louis/Basel. Check-in at the hotel and freetime to explore the town. Switzerland's third largest metropolis, Basel has a beautiful old town, fabulous museum collections and a rich architectural heritage.

After leaving Basel, you will follow the bicycle route northwards, parallel to the Rhine. You will reach Müllheim, where you can visit the Markgräfler Museum and the St. Martin Church with its 14th century frescoes. From Müllheim it is easy to reach Badenweiler: its castle and the remains of a Roman bath are worth a visit.

During this stage, you can visit the Villa Urbana and the castle of the Order of Malta in Heitersheim. Then the pretty spa village of Bad Krozingen, located at the gateway to the Black Forest. From there, you will head to Freiburg, in the heart of Breisgau. From the top of the Schlossberg, you will be able to watch the sunset over the roofs of the city and enjoy a beautiful panorama of the Vosges.

Via the "Breisgau-Radweg" bike path, you will head to the border town of Breisach on the banks of the Rhine. Here you can admire its cathedral, its city center and its picturesque alleys. On the French side, you will plunge into the history of the 17th and 18th centuries by visiting Neuf-Brisach, a Vauban stronghold, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will finally reach Colmar, capital of Alsace wines. Do not miss a walk through its exceptionally well-preserved historic center and a visit to the Unterlinden Museum, which houses the Issenheim Altarpiece, a masterpiece of Western art.

From Colmar you will drive through the Alsace plain and take the Route des Vins, a mythical itinerary with exceptional landscapes and famous wine cities animated by passionate winegrowers. At the foot of the Vosges Mountains, you will discover charming villages that are famous for the great Alsatian wines. Among them, Eguisheim and Kaysersberg were elected favorite village of the French in 2013 and 2017.

Still along the Wine Route, you will discover the villages of Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, Andlau and its Roman abbey, before arriving in Obernai. Each of these villages offers numerous possibilities for visits dedicated to biodiversity, culture and local folk arts and traditions.

In Rosheim, you discover the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul church, one of the jewels of Alsatian Roman architecture. In Molsheim you will join the bicycle path of the Bruche canal which will lead you to the heart of Strasbourg, European capital. Its sumptuous Gothic cathedral, its 2000 years of history, its city center classified as a worldheritage site as well as its art of living and its gastronomy will conclude your stay in beauty.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
