Lucerne never fails to entice visitors with its Lion Monument, the Rigi mountain and the Chapel Bridge, but the city’s much more than that. Picturesquely situated on Lake Lucerne, the city is the gateway to Central Switzerland, the home of William Tell and it is here where the Swiss Confederation was born. Both featured hotels are ideal starting points for exploring the region. You can look forward to exploring medieval old towns, impressive mountain panoramas and idyllic lake landscapes. Join us and experience the real and authentic Switzerland – you won’t be disappointed!

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 7-day location-based tour in the Lucerne area

Arrive in Lucerne and check into your accommodation.

This tour first takes you over a gentle chain of hills with wonderful views of Lake Lucerne and the nearby Rigi mountain. The idyllic meadows and little side streets will almost make you forget how close to the city of Lucerne you still are. You then pass the Küssnacht lakeside promenade on the way to Weggis, where a boat will take you to Beckenried. The route continues along the lake to the Horw peninsula, which offers a view of Lucerne’s iconic local mountain, the Pilatus, and rounds off the tour perfectly.

The neighbouring town of Emmenbrücke leads to the ridge of the Brunauer Berg, which is home to numerous farms and fields. This stage has a few small hills, but the views of the nearby Emmental Valley and the beautiful farmhouses more than make up for the extra effort. Finally, you’ll pass Werthenstein Abbey and continue along the Kleine Emme back to Lucerne.

Today’s route takes you mostly along side streets, through quiet forests and past fields and farms to the charming town of Sursee on Lake Sempach. From here, there are also magnificent views of the nearby Alpine peaks and Mount Pilatus. Sursee is the perfect place for a lunch break before you make your way back to Lucerne on the narrow paths directly along Lake Sempach.

The first part of this route takes you back to Küssnacht on Lake Lucerne. From here, it’s only a few kilometres to Lake Zug, which marks the southern edge of the Rigi. A boat will be waiting for you in Immensee to take you and your bike to the town of Zug. You then continue along the shores of the lake to Rotkreuz, where you’ll follow a forest adventure trail back to Lucerne.

Today’s stage takes you past Emmenbrücke to Lake Baldegg, home to over 300 species of plant. Heidegg Castle, beautifully situated on the banks of the lake, has a wonderfully preserved park and cultural landscape. If you like, you can indulge in a short tour of the rose garden before cycling back to Lucerne for the last time.

Your cycling holiday ends after breakfast, but there is still much to discover. We would be happy to book an extension stay for you.

Level

Leisure cyclists

A tough little climb every now and again or an exciting stage with some hilly sections: that’s what you’re all about! Your legs are ready to conquer the occasional challenge. But there should always be time for a stroll around the city or a nice beer. Even with an average level of fitness and stamina, these routes will be a real treat for you.

Topography

Any elevation gain is mainly due to the daily ascents and descents in the hilly countryside surrounding Lucerne.

Road conditions

Routes of easy to moderate difficulty, mostly on tarmacked paths. The return journey from Werthenstein Monastery involves a stretch of road with more traffic.

Route-finding & navigation

You will navigate by yourself using maps and/or GPS data.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
