Clear, blue water laps against the bow of the boat taking you to Évian-les-Bains on the southern side of Lake Geneva. A fairytale atmosphere then awaits you on the trip to Yvoire. Fancy a dip in the cool water? Or perhaps a glass of wine in one of the many lakeside restaurants? In Haute-Savoie, French joie de vivre awaits you at every turn.

The diplomatic hotspot of Geneva, on the other hand, provides quite a sharp contrast and there’ll be  plenty of time to explore this fascinating metropolis before you continue your journey. Well-preserved castles and elegant market towns await you on the north shore of the lake. As you ride through the Lavaux vineyards, the steel-blue water, lush green vines and snowy white peaks unfold wonderfully before you. There’s nowhere in Switzerland more beautiful than Lake Geneva.

The itinerary

For your 8-day round trip in the Lausanne area

Arrive in Lausanne and check into your accommodation.

In the Morning boat trip to Évian-les-Bains, France. The change of perspective the section on the French side of Lake Geneva brings with it are quite striking – now the hills of the Jura chain salute you from the other side of the lake. There are countless opportunities for swimming on the banks of the lake in Haute-Savoie, too. The destination of today’s ride is the medieval town of Yvoire.

Picturesque harbours and charming villages await you as you ride back towards the Swiss border. You’ll pass the village of Hermance shortly after entering Switzerland. Then, it’s in Cologny where you’ll catch your first glimpses of the Jet d’Eau, Geneva’s famous landmark.

This tour actually takes you away from the big city and back towards the French border as you follow the course of the Rhône and explore vineyards and some charming little villages that are off the beaten track. The canton of Geneva is Switzerland’s third largest wine producer, so why not seize this opportunity to sample a glass of fine wine, too?

As you ride along the Jura mountain range, high above the shores of Lake Geneva, you soon leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind you. The side roads you’ll be riding on are hardly used and magnificent views of the lake and the peaks of the Mont Blanc massif will open up before you. You’ll spend the night either in Nyon or in the neighbouring village of Prangins. In both stage towns, you’ll find stunning Swiss Châteaux that are well worth a visit.

You’ll be staying on the shores of Lake Geneva today, with stately homes and well-tended beaches to look forward to. After lunch, the route climbs gently and leads into the vineyards. Shortly after you pass the market town of Morges is when you’ll reach Lausanne promenade. The city is the seat of the Olympic Committee and has a large number of well-developed sports facilities, as well as a museum on Olympic history that’s well worth a visit.

A special treat awaits you at the end of the tour. Traditional dry stone walls, countless wine cellars and fantastic views make the ride through the Lavaux vineyards one of the most beautiful cycling tours to be experienced in Switzerland. The tour then continues along the shores of Lake Geneva, via Vevey, to Montreux. If you wish, you can extend the tour all the way to Château de Chillon.

Your cycling holiday ends after breakfast, but there is still much to discover. We would be happy to book an extension stay for you.

Level

Occasional cyclists

You prefer flat terrain, but you won’t be put off by the occasional hill. There has to be the right mix of breaks, nature and culture. You enjoy exercise and bring some stamina and cycling experience to the table.

Topography

In France, the paths are flat and easy to ride. In Switzerland, there will always be some small inclines to negotiate.

Road conditions

There can be traffic around the towns, but the ride along the lake takes place mostly on quiet back roads and well-maintained cycle paths.

Route-finding & navigation

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
