Shimmering water and breathtaking views will be just as much a part of your days on Lake Geneva as the bustling cities and quiet valleys. But it’s not just the culture vultures and connoisseurs among you who’ll be in their element here … the stage through the Vallée de Joux, followed by a descent to Lake Geneva, and a visit to the Lavaux vineyard truly set cycling tours in Switzerland apart from the rest. You’ll alternate between exploring world-famous cities and deserted valleys. A perfect balance. Perhaps the perfect cycling holiday, too?

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day location-based tour in the Prangins area

Welcome to Prangins, on the beautiful Lake Geneva!

This morning begins with a boat ride to the little town of Yvoire on the French side of Lake Geneva. Picturesque harbours and charming villages await you as you ride back towards the Swiss border. Then, it’s in Cologny where you’ll catch your first glimpses of the Jet d’Eau, Geneva’s famous landmark. You can also look forward to seeing stately homes and well-kept public beaches just outside the city limits. A short ascent before you reach Prangins leads you over fields and past pretty villages.

Today begins with a bike ride to Nyon, followed by a short train journey to Geneva, where you can take some time to explore this world-renowned metropolis. Eventually, it’ll be time to press on and ride along the Jura mountain range, high above the shores of Lake Geneva, leaving the hustle and bustle of the big city behind you. The side roads you’ll be riding on are hardly used and magnificent views of the lake and the peaks of the Mont Blanc massif will open up before you.

Today begins with another bike ride to Nyon, followed by a train journey to St. Saphorin, a small winemaking village situated in the middle of Lavaux, the world-famous wine-growing region on the shores of Lake Geneva. This is followed by a scenic ascent through the vineyards and a descent towards the Olympic capital Lausanne and then through small market towns as you head back to Prangins.

Today involves a transfer to Le Pont in the Vallée de Joux. The clear and calm waters of this lake sparkle in the sun - this valley truly is one of the most beautiful in Switzerland! From Le Brassus, you then ascend to the Col du Marchairuz. Rocky dry stone walls and wooded pastures typify the landscape here. The magnificent views over Lake Geneva and a thrilling descent conclude your bike tour.

Your cycling holiday ends after breakfast, but there is still much to discover. We would be happy to book an extension stay for you.

Level

Occasional cyclists

You prefer flat terrain, but you won’t be put off by the occasional hill. There has to be the right mix of breaks, nature and culture. You enjoy exercise and bring some stamina and cycling experience to the table.

Topography

There are some hillier sections in Lavaux and during the visit to the Vallée de Joux. Otherwise, this is an easy tour.

Road conditions

There is a little more traffic in the centre of Geneva, but the rest of this tour takes place on quiet roads.

Route-finding & navigation

You will navigate by yourself using maps and/or GPS data.

Fancy a break from cycling?

On a location-based tour, you can simply choose to skip a day's cycling if a stage seems too difficult for you.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
