In the Krkonoše Mountains, near Špindlerův Mlýn, a small stream rises which soon becomes a river. Its name: the Elbe (Labe). This river, often flanked by long avenues of tall poplars, flows lazily through the Bohemian Basin. But it is not only unspoilt nature and tranquillity that accompany cyclists along the Elbe; there is also a distinctive cultural landscape: magnificent palaces, imposing castles and romantic monasteries lie gently nestled within the tranquil river landscape.

Discover this young river by bike; if you like, you can even take a short hike right to its source – and, as a contrast to so much natural beauty, delight in the magnificent sights of the Golden City of Prague at the start and end of your Bohemian round trip.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day round trip in the Prague area

The Golden City offers a wide range of cultural activities for the evening.

Spend the morning in Prague exploring the many sights, such as Charles Bridge or Prague Castle. At 2:00 p.m., you will be taken by shared transfer to Spindleruv Mlyn, the starting point of your cycling tour.

Would you like to go to the source of the Elbe River? Add this excursion (hike approx. 15.5 km, walking time: approx. 5-6 hours) to your tour in the form of an additional overnight stay in Spindleruv Mlyn.

Passing the Elbe Dam, you will soon reach Vrchlabi, the "gateway to the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains)". In addition to Renaissance buildings, wooden houses, and the Augustinian monastery, the Giant Mountains Museum is also worth a visit. Via Hostinne, the route continues to Dvur Kralove with its picturesque market square.

The fortified town of Josefov is impressive with its underground network of tunnels and bunkers. The last few kilometers of today's stage take you directly along the Elbe River. A historic center awaits you in Hradec Kralove.

Today’s bike tour will first take you past Kuneticka Hora Castle. Pardubice, with its charming castle complex, is a great place to stop for lunch. Passing lakes, you continue on to Brehy. Here you leave the bike path and arrive in Prelouc.

In the morning, you will cycle past the national stud farm in Kladruby nad Labem. Some bumpy sections await you around Tynec and Kolin. It is worth visiting the impressive cathedral here before continuing on the well-paved cycle path to Nymburk.

Almost always in close proximity to the Elbe River, the route passes the ruins of Mydlovar Castle and through the craftsmen's village of Botanicus to Celakovice. Here you bid farewell to the Elbe Cycle Route. The easily navigable Cycle Route 241 now takes you approximately 29 km to the historic center of the Golden City of Prague.

After breakfast you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
