This cycle tour takes you to Holland's most beautiful cities: Utrecht, Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Gouda are all worth a visit in themselves. Many of their numerous enchanting monuments, buildings and squares have been part of UNESCO World Heritage for some time.

In between, you will discover water-rich and green scenery, with the windmills, canals and drawbridges so typical of Holland. Picturesque villages create a special atmosphere.

On the North Sea coast, extensive dunes and sandy beaches invite you to sunbathe, or you can simply stroll along the promenades. Art and culture lovers will find exciting museums and shopping fans will get their money's worth in trendy Rotterdam.

Don’t forget to try the famous delicacies: Gouda cheese and syrup waffles are just two of them.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day round trip in the Utrecht area

Picturesque parks and canals, historic buildings and many interesting museums await you in Utrecht. Numerous restaurants and bars invite you to linger in the vibrant city centre.

You will start your cycle tour by following the course of the Utrechtse Vecht. The region of this idyllic river offers plenty of history and culture in addition to its marvellous landscape. The rich gastronomic offer is an added bonus. Today's destination is the Dutch capital Amsterdam. Why not round off the day with a canal cruise?

Take another stroll through the narrow streets of the Dutch metropolis before continuing your cycle tour. You will soon reach Haarlem, which is ideal for a lunch break. In this idyllic city you will find some of the windmills, canals and drawbridges that are so characteristic of Holland. You then cycle the last stretch along the coast to Zandvoort. The extensive sandy beaches will tempt you to take a dip.

Today’s stage takes you along the North Sea coast. Wonderful beach promenades will once again tempt you to take a dip in the cool water. In spring, a short detour to Keukenhof is worthwhile, where more than 7 million tulips, hyacinths and daffodils can be admired. Today's destination is The Hague. Wide sandy beaches, green parks and beautiful dunes characterise this city. Those interested in art and culture will also get their money's worth thanks to the wide range of museums.

You will now head inland again, away from the coast. On your way, you will quickly reach Delft. The university town is famous far beyond its borders for Delft porcelain. In the Vermeer Centre, you can admire works by the painter Johannes Vermeer. The numerous cafés and restaurants will tempt you to linger. The cycling stage ends in the trendy harbour metropolis of Rotterdam, a paradise for shopping fans.

After breakfast, you will still have time for a short stroll through Rotterdam. You will be captivated by the modern architecture. Once on your bike, you will quickly reach the windmills of Kinderdijk. The 19 impressive buildings are among the most popular postcard motifs in the Netherlands. The famous windmills were built as early as 1740 and were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The rest of the tour takes you through the water-rich and picturesque countryside to Gouda.

Medieval Gouda is not only famous for its cheese, but also for its syrup waffles. You can try them for yourself at breakfast. The last stage takes you into the green heart of the Netherlands. You will pass through vast natural landscapes, picturesque villages and extensive polders. You can finish today’s stage with a refreshing beer in the historic city centre of Utrecht.

There is still time for everything you didn't manage to do at the beginning. Whether a canoe trip or a relaxing walk: peace and relaxation are guaranteed. We would be happy to book an extended stay for you.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
