Nature-loving adventurers take note: the Dunajec Cycle Route awaits! The crystal-clear Dunajec river winds its way through a largely unknown and unspoilt landscape. Accompanied by wide vistas, you will whizz through old orchards and sleepy villages. In southern Poland, on the border with Slovakia, you will get to experience different cultures, authentic folklore and quaint little towns.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day round trip in the Krakow area

Individual arrival in Krakow. After receiving your maps and information package at the hotel, take a stroll through Krakow's vibrant old town.

After breakfast and picking up your rental bikes (if booked), you will have the opportunity to visit the most important sights of the royal city: St. Mary's Basilica with its altar by Veit Stoß, the Cloth Hall or Wawel Castle with its cathedral.

In the afternoon, a picturesque bike tour along the Vistula River to the Cistercian Abbey in Tyniec is on the agenda. For the evening, we recommend a stroll through the Kazimierz district, where you can sample traditional Jewish cuisine.

After breakfast, today's included transfer takes you approximately 90 kilometres south to the Dunajec River. The first stage of the Velo Dunajec cycle tour takes you through small villages to Zakopane, also known as the capital of Podhale. The best way to end the day is in one of the many restaurants on the Krupówki promenade, where you can enjoy excellent food accompanied by Goral music.

Today, you leave Zakopane, then take the mountain railway up to Gubałówka. Enjoy wonderful views of the Tatra Mountains before cycling down to Chochołów, a village famous for its old wooden huts. A beautiful and flat cycle path takes you through magnificent mountain scenery to Nowy Targ, with a stop at the Marian pilgrimage site of Ludźmierz.

Continuing along the Dunajec, we head east to Debno with its venerable wooden Church of St. Michael the Archangel. We then cycle along the shore of a reservoir to Niedzica, whose 14th-century castle can be seen from afar. If you wish, you can take a boat trip on Lake Czorsztyńskie in the afternoon and explore the opposite shore by bike.

In the morning, you will cycle towards the Polish-Slovakian border on the Pieniny Trail, which is only open to pedestrians and cyclists. On the Slovakian side, the Cerveny Monastery is well worth a visit. Marvel at the landmark of the Pieniny Mountains, the three-pronged Trzy Korony massif. Once you arrive at the spa town of Szczawnica, you might decide to take a raft trip on the Dunajec River or climb to the summit of Palenica by cable car.

Once again, the Dunajec River will guide you through beautifully situated little villages. When you reach the village of Łącko around noon, be sure to try the famous local Śliwowitz. After a short break, continue on to Nowy Sacz, which has numerous sights to offer, such as the Art Nouveau town hall, St. Margaret's Church, the open-air museum and the synagogue dating from 1774.

After breakfast, transfer (included) to Krakow and then individual journey home. Of course, you could also extend your stay here a little longer.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
