For your 12-day round trip in the Flensburg area
Flensburg is located to the north of Germany and is therefore an ideal starting point for a cycling tour on the Baltic Sea Cycle Route. After your arrival, stroll through the beautiful alleys and corners of the old town with its typical Flensburg merchants‘ courtyards.
You leave Flensburg behind you and after a short time cross the border into Denmark. On the Ox Trail, where cattle used to be driven to the markets, you cycle along quiet paths to Åbenrå.
Today you cycle first to Haderslev. The medieval old town on Hadersleven Dam has many cafés and a walk along the medieval reservoir. Back on the saddle, you cycle comfortably through the quiet area to Christ- iansfeld.
After leaving Christiansfeld, you cycle through the wooded region to Kolding. From afar you can already see the massive tower of the old royal castle Koldinghus. Passing Kolding Fjord and via Skærbæk, you cross the Little Belt just before you reach your destination for the day, Middelfart.
Visit the Henner Friisers Hus in Middelfart. It is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Denmark. You cycle along the coast to Strib with its small lighthouse. Take a short break on the beach: with a bit of luck you will see porpoises. It continues through idyllic landscapes until you reach Odense, the third largest city in the country. If you want to shorten the stage, follow route 6 out of Middelfart to Odense today (- 7 km).
Today‘s stage of your cycling tour in Denmark takes you on Route 55 to the south of Funen. Passing Egeskov Castle, where you should definitely plan a visit, you will reach the coast on the western outskirts of Svendborg. If you stay overnight in Trense, follow route 8 over the bridge to the island of Tåsinge.
Today you will travel by ferry (included) to the Danish South Seas. Your first destination is Ærøskøbing, the oldest town on the island. You are free to decide the island completely or only the eastern or western half of the island. half of the island. Whether the seafaring town of Marstal, the cliffs of Voderup Klint, the hunting lodge of Søbygaard, the lighthouse of Skjoldnæs or the beautiful Ærøskøbing – you will experience a relaxing cycling day. Depending on your wishes, the route can be shortened. The ferry (included) will take you back to Svendborg
First you go to the ferry port in Svendborg, from where you take the boat to the island of Skarø, where very few people live. Take your swimsuit with you and don‘t miss a visit to Skarø Is - Britta and Martin sell their organic ice cream with birch juice in their farm shop and café. A must!
On today‘s stage you cycle partly through the seaside suburb of Rantzausminde towards the west. Already after the village of Ballen you will come to a small beach where you can unpack your swimsuit. Through slightly hilly terrain, the route leads very varied through small towns partly off the coast back to Fåborg. The Fåborg city gate Vesterport is one of only two preserved city gates in Denmark.
With its narrow, cobbled streets, Fåborg is one of the oldest and most idyllic small towns in Denmark. In Bøjden you board the ferry to the island of Als and then cycle via the harbour town of Høruphav to Sønderborg.
In Sønderborg, visit the castle of the same name, one of the oldest royal castles in Jutland, right on the water. Afterwards you start the last stage of your bike tour. In Dybbøl you have a wonderful view over the Flensburg Fjord. A memorial commemorates the German-Danish war in 1864. It is worth taking a break in Gråsten, where the summer residence of the Danish royal family is located. Soon you cross the border and are back in Flensburg.
After breakfast you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.

Frequently asked
questions

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.
The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.
Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.
The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.
Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.
Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.
Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!
Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
