This itinerary takes you on a loop from the medieval town of St Malo taking you along the picturesque Emerald Coast, including stops at the awesome 8th century abbey Mont St. Michel and the charming 'city of the sea', St. Malo. The coastal section includes a ride along fine sandy beaches interspersed with rocks, reefs, granite headlands and sheer cliffs, which are dappled pink and grey in the sunlight. The area is famous for its rich cultural heritage and architecture. There are châteaux, feudal fortresses and abbeys that are waiting to be visited, and a variety of flora and fauna in protected wildlife zones.

For your 8-day round trip in the Saint-Malo area

Arrival in Saint Malo and opportunity to explore the walled town. Enjoy a welcome drink while you receive your route information.

Having wandered amongst the streets and along the ramparts of the old citadel, you then start your cycle inland along the gently undulating valley of the River Rance. Your route will take you along forested roads dotted with small villages to the steep hill that leads you into Dinan, Brittany’s best-preserved medieval town. You should have plenty of time to explore its streets, alleys and ramparts on foot.

Today you ride further inland to see more of the quiet Breton countryside and some ancient monolithic structures known as "dolmen". The sight of its stunning castle draws you into medieval Combourg The castle grounds are open all day and the lake "Lac Tranquille" is ideal for an evening stroll.

Sens de Bretagne, Rimou and other villages are on your route today. After cycling through the valley of the Cousenon river, and then onto Tremblay, you will cycle through some forests and past castles to reach Fougères. Opportunity to explore its different levels, and its seemingly impenetrable castle by foot.

You leave Fougères and discover the typical countryside of Brittany - lovely small farmhouses and villages richly decorated with flowers. Stop in the village of St Brice-en-Coglès, before continuing along small country roads to the banks of the river Couesnon and into Pontorson (which is actually in Normandy).

From Moidrey, fine views of one of the highlights of the whole trip begin to appear. Whether it’s your first or fifth visit, whether it’s sunny or misty, Mont St Michel is breathtaking. Get there as early as you can to enjoy the ancient ramparts, the Abbey, views of the bay and more, before it gets too crowded. Then you wind your way across reclaimed land, glancing back occasionally to the magnificent Mont, to Le Vivier-sur-Mer on the edge of the bay. You arrive in Cancale, a picturesque fishing harbour where the port area is lined with restaurants offering oysters brought from beds just a few hundred metres away.

Today’s cycle follows sandy beaches and granite coasts with great seascapes on offer at the Pointe de Grouin, and a sandy beach and fortress island at the Anse du Guesclin before returning back to the walled town of St Malo.

Your last breakfast in Brittany and time to say au-revoir.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
