The Dutch capital is a unique destination for a city break. Picturesque canals, windmills, tulips, numerous museums, green parks, fancy boutiques, trendy bars and restaurants, street markets, an interesting history and a vibrant cultural scene: all this makes Amsterdam one of the most popular cities in Europe.

No matter what you do: The bicycle is part of the cityscape and the best means of transport. The surroundings of the metropolis also have a lot to offer. On your daily cycling tours, you will explore the most beautiful places around Amsterdam. These include the historic Haarlem, the artists' village of Zaanse Schans and the Muiderslot. A short holiday that offers everything: Adventure and relaxation, big city and idyllic nature - and of course Dutch delicacies.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 5-day location-based tour in the Amsterdam area

Arrive in Amsterdam and check into your accommodation. A quick cycle is the best way to explore the Dutch metropolis. The bike is king here, and you will meet cyclists on practically every corner.

Your first cycling trip takes you to Haarlem. This historic city is much smaller than Amsterdam, but at least as beautiful. Haarlem has it all: restaurants, museums, monuments, green parks, trendy boutiques, and all just a stone’s throw from the beach. Whether you're interested in history or shopping, you certainly won't be bored in Haarlem.

Windmills, Dutch cheese and traditional wooden clogs: you will find all of these in Zaanse Schans. Many people still live and work here in the oldest industrial area of the Netherlands. In the museums, you can learn a lot about the old crafts. The local restaurants offer Dutch specialities to satisfy your hunger and thirst, and you are sure to find the perfect souvenir in the small shops. Zaanse Schans - the essence of Holland!

The last cycle tour takes you into a water-rich natural landscape with extensive meadows and pastures. From time to time, you will pass small, picturesque villages where you can relax. Numerous country estates and fortifications also lie on your way. It is worth visiting Muiderslot, which was built as early as 1285. Surrounded by gardens and water, it is one of the best-preserved castles in Holland. In the evening, take another stroll through Amsterdam’s winding streets with the narrow houses and their gabled facades that are so typical of the cityscape.

Your cycling holiday in Amsterdam ends after breakfast, but there is still much to discover in the capital of the Netherlands. We would be happy to book an extension stay for you.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
