A classic in the cycling country Switzerland: along the Aare you'll get to know a piece of Switzerland that has preserved the charm of its province, its peasantry and its unspoilt nature right up to the present day: Visit the country and its inhabitants "through the back door" – not through the front entrance with all the tourist stereotypes.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 7-day tour from Interlaken to Bad Zurzach

Arrive in Interlaken and check into your accommodation.

You start your trip with a ride through the wide Aaretal (Aare Valley): large villages, industry, open fields and a powerful river in lush water meadows. Then follows the entrance to Berne, the capital city of Switzerland and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A few pedal strokes will take you from the UNESCO-listed old town of Berne to the idyllic Lake Wohlen. The Aare leads into the Seeland, a huge vegetable garden thanks to the canal Hagneck. Behind reeds and woodland you can sense the Lake Biel, cheerful hustle and bustle in bilingual Biel-Bienne.

"Children" of the Jura water correction: the Nidau-Büren canal and the old water loop in the Häftli. Witi-Altreu, the world of the stork and hare chamber. Continue along the banks of the Aare river until you spot the St. Ursen Tower which marks the baroque town of Solothurn.

The so-called "Ambassadorial City" of Solothurn is considered the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland, where Italian grandeur is combined with French charm and German-Swiss down-to-earthness. From here always the Aare "naa" (to) – Aarau, capital of the canton of Aargau in the Swiss Midlands (Schweizer Mittelland), lies on the river Aare, to which the city and canton owe their names.

A family-friendly and delightful route along the Aare River from Aarau to Koblenz, where Aare and Rhine rivers converge. A scenic ride past gabled houses, a few cement factories, wetlands, beavers, birds – and lots of water. From Koblenz continue to Bad Zurzach.

Your cycling holiday ends after breakfast, but there is still much to discover. We would be happy to book an extension stay for you.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
